2006 toyota camry review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's best-selling sedan. introductiontoyota camry outsells all the other midsize cars largely because of toyota's reputation for quality, durability and reliability. The camry is the perfect transportation appliance, flawlessly performing its duties, never annoying its owner. Its soft suspension smoothes out beat-up city streets. The interior is ergonomically excellent, with big climate and audio knobs that are easy to adjust, and the seats are comfortable.  for 2006, the camry soldiers on virtually unchanged. (an all-new camry is being launched for model year 2007.)  the two-door solara comes in coupe and convertible versions. Both are high-quality cars. As before, the solara is also available with a v6 engine. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard; a five-speed automatic transmission is optional 830).  le is available with a 190-horsepower 3. 0-liter v6 2,405); it comes with the automatic transmission, included in the option price. Se is available with a bigger 3. 3-liter v6 rated at 210 horsepower 2,820), which comes with the five-speed automatic. Note that horsepower ratings for all three engines is lower than last year; this is due to a change in the society of automotive engineers testing procedure used to rate horsepower. The engines themselves are unchanged and just as strong as last year's models.  the base sedan 18,445) comes with air conditioning; cruise control; power windows, mirrors and locks; six-speaker am/fm/cd stereo; a 60/40 split rear seat; abs with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd); and p205/65r15 all-season tires on 15-inch steel wheels.  upgrading to the le 19,545) adds interior brightwork, upgraded cloth upholstery, power driver's seat, remote keyless entry, engine immobilizer, driver-information center and a full-size spare tire. The le v6 22,780) also gets 15-inch aluminum wheels.  camry se 20,375) is a sportier model, with higher-rate springs, shocks, and anti-roll bars, along with higher-effort steering and bigger (16-inch) steel wheels and p215/60 summer-only tires. A three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and lots of bright trim add zing to the interior. The se v6 24,025) adds the engine immobilizer, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and power sunroof.  the xle 22,795) is the most luxurious camry, featuring wood-grain interior trim, power driver and passenger seats, automatic climate control, side-curtain airbags, jbl premium stereo with in-dash six-cd changer, a more advanced driver information center, an alarm system with engine immobilizer, a cargo net, a rear-window sunshade, and p215/60 all-season tires on 16-inch steel rims. The xle v6 25,805) comes with leather seats and fancier gauges and 16-inch aluminum wheels.  the camry solara coupe comes in se, se sport, and sle trim levels. The se v6 coupe 21,860) is similarly equipped. Side curtain airbags are optional.  the solara se sport coupe 21,025) comes with sport-tuned suspension and p215/55r17 all-season tires on 17-inch aluminum wheels; it also gets aggressive exterior appliques; and substitutes graphite and charcoal trim for a lot of the se's interior brightwork. Solara se sport v6 23,355) is similarly equipped.  the solara sle 23,405) is the most luxurious model with automatic climate control, power moonroof, jbl stereo with six-disc cd changer, power seats and woodgrain interior trim. The sle v6 convertible 30,210) is equipped the same as the sle v6 cou. walkaroundoverall, the toyota camry is a solid-looking car, stylish yet conservatively so. The camry presents a sculptured appearance, with slightly flared wheel arches and a distinct dual crease line in the hood, the latter leading nicely into the grille. On sporty se models, the grille is blacked out.  solara shares the sedan's 107-inch wheelbase, but is 3. 3 inches longer overall than the camry, measuring 192. 5 inches from bumper to bumper.  the solara coupe looks like a stylized version of the sedan. It's a more adventurous design. The roofline is sleeker and the rear is totally different from the camry sedan's, reminding us of the lexus sc 430. The arc-shaped theme features a continuous line from the front bumper, over the roof, and down to the rear bumper. Just below the beltline, a character line flows in a gentle s-curve from the teardrop headlamps to the teardrop taillights. The solara looks aerodynamically efficient, and it is, with a drag coefficient of just 0. 29 cd, making it slip through the air much more easily than the previous solara, good for wind noise, gas mileage, and speed. The outside door handles are easy to grab, much better than lever-style handles.  toyota says the convertible's body structure was designed from the ground up for topless motoring, unlike the previous-generation convertible, which was adapted from the then-current coupe. The solara was designed and engineered in the u. And is built in the u. S. interiorthe toyota camry has a comfortable interior with controls that are straightforward and easy to operate. Everything is laid out simply. Optional power-adjustable pedals help shorter drivers find a safer, more comfortable driving position, by permitting them to move the pedals closer to them and sit farther from the airbag-armed steering wheel.  radio and climate controls are mounted high in the center of the dash for easy access. Three big knobs mounted prominently in the center of the dashboard are used to manually control heating, ventilation, and air conditioning on base, se and le models. Xle models get automatic climate controls with a smooth tactile feel that reminds us of lexus, which set the modern standard. The stereo uses big tuning and volume knobs and big buttons that make it easy to operate, whether scanning for radio stations or moving between songs on a cd. We found the audio quality on the available jbl sound system a bit lacking, however.  we found the optional navigation system easy to use and it recalculates quickly. It's available as a stand-alone option for 2006 and we recommend getting it.  the instruments are located in a relatively small pod directly in front of the steering wheel, with a large half-moon tachometer and matching speedometer. The fuel and temperature gauges are located within the two larger instruments. Lights and windshield wiper/washer controls are on stalks on the steering column, leaving the left lower edge of the dash free of switches.  the camry dashboard is relatively plain, with no large curved surfaces, and it is set relatively high. The dash blends nicely into the door panels, but the cover for the passenger-side air bag is noticeable as the seams show clearly. Many other manufacturers have made the passenger-side air bag invisible.  a wide center console separates the two front bucket seats and contains useful storage areas. The parking brake on the base and le is located in the center console, whereas the se and xle get foot-operated parking brakes.  rear-seat passengers will find the camry's accommodations quite pleasant for a mid-size sedan. The rear seat splits 60/40, allowing long objects to pass through from the trunk, although the opening is small. The trunk itself is a decent size and shape. Gooseneck hinges steal some space, but are hidden under a cover, reducing the chance that they will damage trunk contents as the lid is closed.  the solara adds a dash of panache with a sweeping console that invokes the intimate atmosphere of a sporty coupe. The seats are relatively flat, which makes sliding in and out easy, but we'd prefer a little more side support. The cloth is nice, though it's a bit bland. But the faux wood in the solara convertible we tested looked like plastic and some of the silver reflective material on the lower ce.

2003 toyota corolla review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A baby lexus for the rest of us. introductiontoyota says the corolla has been the world's best-selling car when measured over the past 35 years. Apparently, that wasn't good enough. Yet both are essentially identical under the skin. Ce comes standard with a manual transmission; an automatic is optional 14,370).  s 14,515 with manual gearbox, $15,315 with automatic transmission) features sporty styling cues such as smoked headlight lens extenders, integrated fog lamps, and an aerodynamic body package with color-keyed front and rear underbody spoilers, rocker panel extensions, and rear mud guards. It also gets wider 195/65r15 tires. Inside, the s gets a unique cloth interior, a sporty tachometer, chrome accents, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The s model gets a vertical seat-height, power door locks, and map lights.  le 14,680 or $15,480 with the automatic) adds remote keyless entry, power windows, and intermittent wipers. The le lacks the sporty body cladding of the s. And in place of the s model’s sporty interior finish, the le gets wood-like trim and upgraded cloth seating surfaces. An optional leather package is available 1,050, which includes a sunroof) for the le that gives the car a luxurious feel. walkaroundat first sight the new corolla actually looks smaller than the one it replaces. However, it is over three inches taller while having the same width as the old model, hence the impression of being smaller.  ironically, in photographs the new corolla looks bigger than it does in real life and could easily be mistaken for a camry or even a lexus. It has similar ovoid headlights and a rakish yet curved shape that is in keeping with the newest camry and avalon as well as the lexus es 300.  fairly thick a-pillars at the front and c-pillars at the rear give the car a solid look. Likewise, the corolla has fairly hefty looking bumpers, which add to the car's substantial appearance. Although the new corolla has 15-inch wheels (compared to 14-inch wheels on the previous corolla), it could do with larger wheels and tires that would fill out the wheels wells more effectively. The matrix comes with 16-inch wheels as standard and 17-inch as optional so it seems like it would be an easy upgrade that would improve the car's looks.  at the rear the corolla has a fairly high trunk line in keeping with the car's high belt line. The rear taillights match the shape of the headlights nicely. Part of the taillight module is actually mounted in the trunk lid. This is fine except that the design causes the trunk lid to be narrower than it might be.  the doors have reasonably wide openings, which makes getting in and out easier. That's a benefit of the long wheelbase, which also means that the rear wheel wells do not protrude into the rear door as much as they do on some cars. Another benefit of a longer wheelbase is shorter overhangs at the front and rear (the distance from the wheels to the ends of the car). Short overhangs improve the car's looks, and the handling.  the s model has additional body-color moldings that set it apart as the sporty model. These include a lower front spoiler with integrated fog lights, side rocker panels and a rear under skirt. interiorthe interior is where the corolla really shines. Inside, it doesn't feel like a small car, and it doesn't feel cheap. The center console and portions of the armrest on the door panels have a wood-like veneer trim. Okay it's fake but it's so well made that it looks more realistic than some real wood found in luxury cars. Both the le and s models get a leather-wrapped steering wheel as standard.  for most people though front-seat leg and headroom is just fine and there's a decent amount of room in the back for two average size adults. Although there are seat belts for a third rear-seat passenger, there's definitely a shortage of space for that person. Materials used in the seats appear classy with nice fit and finish. It is nicely laid out and its finish is as good as that in all but the most expensive luxury cars. Coupled with the nice finish, it makes the corolla feel more like a small lexus, especially if one opts for the leather seats. It has a top surface that sweeps across the width of the car in a slight s-curve and wraps into the door trim. Each side of the center console seamlessly blends up to the lower portion of the dash, which includes a large glove box on the passenger side. The handle for the parking brake is located on the left of the center console so there's room for a small storage cubbyhole on the right.  three overlapping round gauges in the instrument pod contain a large speedometer, a smaller tachometer to the left and a water temperature gauge and fuel gauge mounted in a matching circle to the right. They incorporate red lettering on a plain white background. There's also an outside temperature readout on all models.  storage spaces are quite generous with small pockets in each door and cubbyholes in the center console. The rear seats split 60/40 to allow access from the trunk, though the opening is not that large, limiting pass-through with large cargo. On the other hand it's a sedan so it is not supposed to have the hauling capacity or convenience of a hatchback or station wagon. The trunk is a reasonable size although once again gooseneck hinges intrude into the cargo space and also crush fragile items if they are in the way. Many auto manufacturers have switched to the scissor-type hinges that are located outside the storage space. Quite why toyota and other japanese manufacturers have not switched to this design remains surprising.  all in all the interior has a high level of refinement beyond what one expects in a low cost sub-compact. On the safety side all corollas come with multi-stage front airbags. While side curtain airbags are offered as an option on all models. driving impressionone word sums up the driving experience in the new corolla: transparent. That's a benefit to those who don't particularly enjoy driving. But it's not supposed to be. It includes a shift logic system that helps hold a gear longer than it might otherwise if it senses the car is going up an incline or the driver wants plenty of power while passing.  the power steering is just right, providing a nice feel without being too stiff or sloppy. The suspension has been tuned to give a smooth ride, which is helped by the longer wheelbase compared to the previous generation. Body roll has been minimized and the car feels secure at all speeds. Those who enjoy the crisp handling of a sports sedan will find the car's suspension a little too soft. These drivers may want to opt for the matrix, which does have a slightly stiffer more sporty suspension.  for those who enjoy doing their ow. 2008 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagon, and gangster convertible. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door wagon and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is small and easy to park.  it's also easy on gas. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense.  the pt cruiser convertible is one of the least expensive convertibles on the market. Its trunk is tiny and awkward, however; in fact, we can't think of a trunk that's less convenient than the one on the cruiser convertible.  the pt cruiser doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments, but competes on some levels with the chevy hhr, the scion xb, and the mini cooper. Like them, it is essentially a car: the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. So it drives like a car, though the handling is not as good. Cruiser is an appropriate name.  chrysler has dropped the high-performance gt models for 2008. Frankly, we thought they were over-priced and favored the standard model that is still available.  new for 2008, a tire-pressure monitor and front side air bags are now standard on all models and the base wagon is now called lx. The 2008 limited model now has 17-inch wheels, the 2. 4-liter turbocharged engine, abs and traction control as standard equipment. lineupthe 2008 chrysler pt cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. In all but the limited model the standard engine is tuned to deliver 150 horsepower. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include dual front airbags; torso-protecting front side-impact airbags; and a tire-pressure monitor. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. Antilock brakes and traction control are standard on limited. They are also included with the optional turbocharged engine and are available as a $625 option for other models. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look was refined beginning with the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. The horizontal-themed grille does not extend below the bumper as on older models and it's topped by a prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  exterior dimensions indicate the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's shorter in overall length than most compact sedans, but it's relatively tall. Measuring 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, it's nearly as tall as a minivan. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the wagon. The convertible looks shorter than the wagon, but it isn't. Maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's lower, however, by almost three inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design.  with the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. And it looks pretty cool. Drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. interiorthe chrysler pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin, although here, too, the retro theme is tempered by a modern-looking center stack that visually splits the vintage-styled dashboard.  the driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right, and fuel and water temperature left. Accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials at the bottom. Window switches are high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets. It's fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The front seats have a reasonable amount of bolstering to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. The pt's console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a coin holder and fold-out cupholders for rear-seat coffee consumers.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The wagon's 120. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function of the cruiser's height.  to take advantage of this, the rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front. This theater seating, as it's called, affords the back-seat passengers a better view forward. Rear passengers also can stretch their legs underneath the front seats, which are mounted on tall boxes. A 6-foot, 9-inch passenger can fit comfortably in the front or rear seats.  the cabin of the pt cruiser wagon can be configured 26 different ways. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf in t.

2003 lexus es 300 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. High quality, smooth ride, bold styling. introductiononce a wallflower, the lexus es 300 is now a bold-looking luxury sedan. Redesigned for 2002, the es 300 looks smooth and sleek, yet larger and more substantial.  in fact it is considerably larger than the pre-2002 model, standing 2. 4 inches taller and stretching 2. 0 inches longer in wheelbase. Trunk volume for the es 300 was increased 12 percent over the 2001 model. At the same time, new sound-absorbing and vibration-isolating technologies have brought exceptional quiet and smoothness.  lexus has justly earned a reputation for exceptional quality control and the es 300 delivers a compelling combination of quality, comfort, refinement, and value. Behind the fit and finish is a great deal of careful design and detail work. Vehicle skid control adds $650. Adaptive variable suspension adds $620. A $4860 package combines leather, memory, navigation, and premium sound. A power rear sunshade 210); high intensity discharge (hid) headlamps with automatic leveling and rain-sensing wipers 640); heated seats 440); and chrome wheels 1700) round out the option list.  . walkaroundthe radical forward rake of the es 300, combined with its streaked-back headlamps, make a striking and dynamic statement. The front end seems to slope down in one continuous curve, from the top of the windshield, over the sculpted hood and tidy dark grille, down to the smooth air dam under the almost seamless front bumper. The headlight cluster suggests silvery eyes pulled back at the corners.  the tail lights, similarly shaped, wrap forward as if stretching to meet the headlights. Every detail contributes to the suggestion of shape; note, for example, how the rear window outline lifts the glass area up and away from the rear deck. All this smoothness contributes to exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, measured by a coefficient of drag (cd) of just 0. 28.  one of the engineering objectives behind the current es 300 was to make it the safest car in its class. Computers aided the design of the reinforced passenger compartment and of the front and rear crush zones that crumple to absorb the impact of a crash. When lexus officials introduced the car to the automotive press, they showed a video of a crash test, a head-on impact at 40 mph. In slow motion, we saw the body rippling rearward like a wave, rolling with the crunch to the nose. The front end was totally crushed, but, remarkably, the windshield remained unbroken, and the doors could still be opened. The front seats of the es 300 are designed to reduce whiplash, and the driver is protected by no less than three air bags.  another design goal for the current model was to boost performance through efficiency, rather than increasing power. The 2003 model weighs 67 pounds more than the 2001, and produces the same 210 horsepower and 220 pounds-feet of torque. Yet acceleration has improved, with 60 mph now arriving from a standstill in 8. 1 seconds. A drive-by-wire throttle, pioneered in the ls 430, contributes to the quicker time. So does a new five-speed automatic transmission, a new induction system, and a redesigned exhaust. The wood has a different look, but it harmonizes with the brushed aluminum trim. The standard steering wheel and shift lever are covered with stitched leather and look very nice. In addition to the usual indicator lights, lexus has provided an exterior temperature gauge and an information display that covers fuel mileage, driving range and average speed. But the digital radio and climate-control displays are difficult to read in bright sunlight. The crumb-sized green light that indicates that the air conditioning is on is undetectable in the bright of day.  the glove compartment contains a trunk lock, as well as releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. The rearview mirror is a self-dimming (electrochromic) unit, with a digital compass. The console holds a storage box with a power outlet inside, and two cup holders with adjustable rings. There's a purse hanger in the front passenger footwell, and two retractable coat hooks in the rear.  the standard fabric seats offer 10-way power adjustment for the driver and eight-way adjustment for the front-seat passenger. The shape and construction of the front seats is borrowed from the lexus flagship ls 430. The seats are very comfortable and the seating position is excellent, with lots of front-seat legroom. Front and rear headroom are increased by 1. 7 and 1. 4 inches, respectively, while rear legroom has grown from 34. 4 to 35. 6 inches. Somehow front legroom suffered, however, shrinking from 43. 5 to 42. 2 inches. And despite the increased height, there doesn't seem to be an abundance of headroom; a 5-foot, 10-inch driver can touch the headliner by stretching a bit. The slope of the rear window doesn't allow a panoramic view, though it still fills the rearview mirror. The mirror is mounted so close to the headliner that adjusting it requires an awkward grab at its bottom edge.  according to lexus, the optional third-generation dvd navigation system is state-of-the-art, designed for intuitive operation. A tilt screen and simplified graphics contribute to easier on-the-road viewing, and the system can provide multiple routes to multiple destinations for those so intuitively inclined. The database also contains the location of airports, banks, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and even atms.  . driving impressionthe lexus es 300 delivers a smooth, refined ride. The firmest position wasn't harsh around town (although it was definitely stiff on a washboard gravel road), and the car didn't wallow during spirited cornering in the softest position. But the system is tuned very nicely, and provides a great ride under all conditions.  the es 300 rolls on low, wide tires (p215/60r15). The speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering has a very nice touch: light, but with good feel, effortless around town.  the brakes, too, were effortless, yet sensitive. The first time we applied them, at 30 mph, we went, 'whoa!' we think most drivers will quickly adapt to the low effort level, and even appreciate it.  toyota's 3. 0-liter v6 was already pretty smooth, partly because the 60 degree vee between its cylinder banks was chosen for optimum balance. (many automakers compromise with a 90 degree vee, which allows their v6 engines to be manufactured with the same tools as their v8s.) lexus also uses sophisticated electronic engine mounts that change their vibration-dampening level as the engine speed increases.  but performance from the engine and transmission offer less to boast about. 2011 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Updated and fully competitive in the class. introductiondodge grand caravan has been substantially revised for the 2011 model year, and we think the changes elevate this minivan on the consideration scale. The dodge grand caravan and chrysler town & country offer class-leading interior convenience.  the 2011 dodge grand caravan benefits from an extensive midcycle update. Changes for 2011 include revised styling, a new engine, an upgraded suspension, and a reworked interior.  for 2011, grand caravan has been repositioned to sell mostly below $30,000 while its chrysler counterpart, the town & country, is packaged to sell above $30,000. For the grand caravan, that means several features are no longer available, including sirius backseat tv, flotv, a power third-row seat, a dual-screen rear dvd entertainment system, and swivel 'n go seating with second-row seats that turn rearward to face a table that stows in the floor. However, the key features that make the grand caravan a compelling purchase as a people mover remain.  the new engine for 2011 is a 3. 6-liter v6 that replaces three archaic v6s from 2010, offering more power and improved fuel economy. The new engine fixes a weak point and makes the dodge competitive with the toyota sienna and honda odyssey. This fine new 3. 6-liter v6 is mated to a mediocre 6-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a combination that delivers adequate response for most drivers.  the 2011 grand caravan suspension is stiffer than before and the van rides lower, making it more responsive to driver inputs than the 2010 model. Gone are the annoying wallow and float characteristics we noted with the 2010 model. Yet ride quality is still quite smooth. Like all modern minivans, the grand caravan is big, so it can be a beast to handle in tight quarters. Grand caravan, sienna, and odyssey are all the same size: extra large. Indeed, we should call these vehicles midi-vans or vans because there is nothing mini about them.  for 2011, the interior of the grand caravan is upgraded, and we find the new look far more attractive. The materials are richer, though, like most of its rivals, hard plastic dominates the dashboard. Still, the new soft-touch door tops, redesigned gauges and nice bits of trim are welcome.  grand caravan is about usable space. Super stow 'n go is standard. The third-row seats fold into the well behind them, and with all the seats down the grand caravan can accept a 4x8 sheet of plywood.  the grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features make it a strong contender in the minivan class, and the 2011 changes only make it better. Families will like it, especially because those entertainment features will make for more enjoyable family trips. That is, after all, the reason the grand caravan remains so popular. While some options are gone, there are plenty of entertainment features that will help keep the kids occupied. They include three types of hard-drive radio, sirius satellite radio, rear dvd entertainment, a wireless cell phone link, and a mobile internet hot spot. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, such as the popular stow 'n go seating system. Stow 'n go consists of bins in the floor behind the first row of seats, and second-row seats that can be folded into those bins, resulting in a flat load floor for easily carrying larger objects. Options include a rearview camera, rear park assist, rear cross path and blind spot alert. All-wheel drive is not available. walkaroundthe dodge grand caravan is attractive, as minivans go. The look is less boxy for 2011, as dodge has softened the lines a bit while adding a touch of sportiness.  for starters, the 2011 grand caravan sits an inch lower than before. Up front, it has a sportier fascia with mesh inserts, a revised version of the dodge crosshair grille, a slightly reshaped hood and quad headlights. At the rear, the liftgate is slightly modified to accept new dodge lettering, there is a body color roof spoiler, the fascia is new, there a step plate with chrome trim, and the taillights add leds. Sixteen-inch wheels are standard. We think the available five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels look better.  a minivan shape does not lend itself to artistic sculpture. A description of the overall shape of this current generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. There is a big box behind, where all the people and cargo fit, and a smaller box in front, for the engine. That very efficient outline defines every minivan on the road.  all the leading minivans, including toyota sienna, honda odyssey, and chrysler town & country, are within an inch or two of the grand caravan in overall dimensions. The grand caravan has a 202. 8-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase.  these so-called minivans are quite large. However, they share their basic architecture with cars, using unit-body structures and front-wheel-drive platforms, with the engine mounted transversely. Conversely, full-size vans, such as the chevrolet express, are built on truck platforms, with body-on-frame structures, rear-wheel-drive platforms and giant, longitudinally mounted v8 engines. Minivans are lighter, more fuel-efficient and offer more responsive handling than the full-size vans. interiorthe 2011 grand caravan gets a new interior design, and it's a considerable upgrade versus the 2010 model. The dashboard is still hard plastic, but that's the norm for the class. The look and feel is much better, with a more flowing, one-piece design. The door tops are now padded, adding a touch of comfort, and the cloth and leather upholstery are upgraded. We liked the stain-resistant cloth seats on last year's models, but the cloth seats on the 2011 models look quite good as well.  up front, the instrumentation is changed for 2011, with bigger black dials offset by blue-tinted graphics and chrome trim. The shift lever sticks out just to the left of the center stack, an efficient location.  the steering wheel is new on the 2011 model.

2012 nissan juke review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Stylish and versatile. introductionthe nissan juke is a small, five-seat crossover with distinctive, fun styling, sharp performance and decent cargo space. Those who appreciate unique design and don't mind standing out should love it. It's a great car for running errands around town, hauling boxes, jumping in and out, parking in tight places.  the juke was introduced as a 2011 model, so the 2012 juke is unchanged. The juke is built on nissan's global b platform, proven with familiar cars like the versa hatchback and sedan.  the 2012 nissan juke is offered in three trim levels, with front- or all-wheel drive, and it's available with high-end features like a rockford-fosgate powered subwoofer and navigation with xm traffic reporting.  the name juke is supposed to suggest flitting around town, as a boxer might juke around the ring, and the nissan juke does just that. Juke's styling is aggressively quirky. It's built on a short, 96-inch wheelbase, making it agile for juking around town.  juke's steering is responsive, and it sticks nicely to pavement on winding roads. Yet its short wheelbase, suspension tuning and relatively large 17-inch wheels combine for a ride the calls out every undulation. It's not sharp or harsh so much as bouncy. The engine delivers 188 horsepower, 177 pound-feet of torque and brisk acceleration.  the continuously variable transmission, or cvt, is one of the best examples of this technology to date. It can be used like an automatic, shifted into drive and forgotten, or shifted manually with six speed ranges that sharpen performance. A 6-speed manual gearbox is available for models with front-wheel drive. The manual transmission wrings out the quickest acceleration and best fuel economy, but we found it also emphasizes torque steer and the raucous quality of the engine.  all-wheel drive (awd) gives the juke all-season capability though it reduces fuel economy slightly. Juke awd only comes with the cvt.  fuel economy ratings for all jukes are lower than those of the competition. The juke gets an epa-estimated 27/32 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and the cvt or 25/31 mpg with the manual transmission. With all-wheel drive, juke is rated 25/30 mpg. Premium gasoline is recommended.  the juke seats five, though there isn't much legroom in the back seats. The rear seat is split 60/40 and folds flat. And that's the best configuration: using the juke as a two-seater with a lot of cargo space.  we found the front seats comfortable while driving about. The fabric is sporty in the juke sv, while the leather in the juke sl is impressive. The center console design is inspired by a motorcycle gas tank, and its hard plastic trim is painted a glossy silver or deep metallic red. It's distinctive, and cool.  the juke competes in one of the fastest growing chunks of the new vehicle market. Juke front-wheel-drive models go head to head with the kia soul, while juke awd squares off with the suzuki sx4, mitsubishi outlander sport. The stylish juke can also be compared with the more expensive mini cooper countryman all4. lineupthe 2012 nissan juke is available in eight variants, with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual or cvt automatic. The juke s awd 21,430) adds the all-wheel drive system, which comes with the cvt in all trim levels.  juke sv 21,080) and sv awd 23,230) upgrade with a more plush fabric upholstery, power moonroof, rear privacy glass, automatic temperature control, proximity key with pushbutton ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the integrated control (i-con) system with sport, normal and eco modes for programming engine, transmission and steering response. The front-drive sv comes with the 6-speed manual, though the cvt 500) is available. The optional navigation package 800) includes a five-inch screen, upgraded speakers with a powered subwoofer and a usb connection.  juke sl 23,400) and sl awd 25,550) include the navigation package, and include leather upholstery, heated front seats, a rearview camera and foglights. The front-drive sl comes with the manual or cvt 500). Options include a chrome package 540), interior illumination package 490) and a sport package 1,310), which adds a rear spoiler, stainless steel exhaust finisher and gunmetal wheels.  safety equipment on all jukes includes front-impact airbags, front passenger side-impact airbags, full cabin head protection curtains, nissan's vehicle dynamic control, or stability control, antilock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), and a tire-pressure monitor. The rearview camera is available only on the sl. walkaroundpretty, the nissan juke isn't, but it certainly shouts for attention. We'd call it cute, in an ugly duckling sort of way. It's a functional, practical package in a compact vehicle that stands out in the crowd.  the juke is a small vehicle, with about the same footprint as the subcompact ford fiesta. Juke is substantially shorter in length than the subcompact nissan versa, though the juke is slightly wider. Juke's exterior dimensions closely match similarly conceived crossovers like the kia soul and mini cooper countryman.  there are lots of trendy themes in this so-called sport cross. From the side, especially the window outlines, the juke appears to have borrowed from the reverse-wedge soul. The juke's taillights borrow their boomerang shape from the nissan 370z sports car. There's a raked windshield, high beltline and broad shoulders.  the juke also has design cues that shout originality. Its nose is full of circles, namely the big round headlights inspired by rally lights, and fog lights in the air dam. Nissan calls the amber running lights and turn signals integrated, but we'd argue that definition. They're slapped onto the tops of the fenders like barnacles.  hyper-aggressive edged fender flares outline big wheel arches and suggest room for monster tires, making the standard 17-inch wheels look small. The 12-spoke wheels are fancy (not a bad thing) for a little car, but still lost in the cavern. The conspicuously high ground clearance adds to this effect.  the juke looks best in the metallic charcoal brown, with gold specs in the paint catching the sun. It's stylish (and dare we say a bit unusual), but its unique design features don't come at the expense of easy operation or practical function. Its overall finish is decent.  the weak link inside is the plastics. The door panels and dash covering are hard, scratchy and hollow-sounding. The decorative trim is even harder plastic, though it's painted deep and glossy in either silver or candy-apple red depending on the color scheme, and it looks terrific.  the seating position is high, and that affords good forward visibility. There's also a good view in the mirror through the rear glass. If it looks like it should be pinched, there's no problem. It can get a bit noisy in the juke, especially when it's powerful little engine is working hard, but the standard audio system is up to the task, masking the noise at fairly low volume without sounding tinny. The gear-shift is set fairly high, rally car style, and the seats are comfortable in either grade of fabric or the superb optional leather. The fabric looks best in dark charcoal, and the leather in a rich brown. There's good bolstering that does its best to keep the driver's body in place, but the suspension allows a lot of upper body sway, or head toss, as it used to be called in the older jeep cherokees.  the gauges behind the steering wheel are good: black faces, white lettering, red needles, with brushed aluminum-like rings around the speedometer and tach. A range of useful information can be displayed in a little window between them. We like this feature, until recently reserved for much more expensive vehicles, but there's a problem in the juke. The juke isn't the only car with this poor design, but a scroll button on one of the spokes would sure be helpful.  the center stack is nice and big and wide, more like a square with rounded corners. At the top sits the audio system, or the optional navigation package and its 5-inch screen. All the buttons, knobs and dials allow simple, low-distraction function. Below are the climate controls on base models, or the i-con (for integrated controls) system on all other juke models. Think of i-con as a central command center and display, a. 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. For 2008, silverado gets some detail improvements and minor pricing adjustments.  the styling is bold yet still conservative when compared with the latest pickups from dodge, nissan, toyota, and ford. The popular 5. 3-liter v8 delivers good power when needed and quiet cruising when not. lineupthe 2008 chevy silverado is available in several trim levels: wt, lt1, lt2, and ltz. The extended cab has rear access doors that are hinged at the rear but that open to 170 degrees to provide full access to the rear seating area.  the standard cab can be outfitted with a standard (6-foot, 6-inch) or long (8-foot) beds. Larger cabs typically include more standard equipment, and 4wd adds $2,000-$3,000.  five suspension setups are available: z83 is the standard suspension and is designed for a smooth ride; z85 is a little firmer for enhanced handling and towing; z71 is for off-road driving and includes 18-inch wheels; z60 is for maximum street performance and includes 20-inch wheels; nht is for maximum towing capacity and includes high-capacity rear springs as well as all-terrain tires.  safety features on all silverado models dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, tire pressure monitoring system. Options include side-curtain airbags (lt, ltz only), stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology (extended cab only, standard crew), autotrac active transfer case, ultrasonic rear parking assist, onstar.  option prices vary by trim level and body style. Among them (ltz prices shown): a cargo management system for the truck bed 95), a power sliding sunroof 795), 20-inch wheels/suspension 995), a power sliding rear window 200), rear-seat entertainment system 1,295), and navigation system 2,250). On lesser models: locking differential 395), stabilitrak electronic stability control 425), tow packages (about $300-$750). walkaroundthe 2008 chevy silverado may not have the aggressive styling of the dodge ram or nissan titan or even the toyota tundra or ford f-150, but its upright design may be considered both bold and appealing to its faithful customers, and they buy hundreds of thousands of silverados each year.  a raked windshield (raked at 57 degrees) and careful aerodynamic and body-building engineering make the truck both quieter on the inside and more fuel efficient. Gm boasts that the silverado and gmc sierra are the first full-size trucks to offer both 300 horsepower and epa highway ratings of 20 miles per gallon (2wd 4. 3 and 5. 3 on gasoline).  the large, gold chevy bowtie badge is set against a wide, three-bar chrome grille. The grille is flanked by stacked headlamps sporting the latest reflector-optics. The front bumper incorporates rectangular fog lamps.  the hood has a wide power dome. Bulging front fenders wrap over the front wheels and incorporate the headlamps within their forward sweep. Likewise, the rear quarter panels are punctuated by large faired wheel wells.  the rear view of the truck features stacked tail lamps on either side of a tall tailgate that has a sculpted center section that mimics and inverts the shape of the fender flares.  built on what general motors calls its gmt900 platform, the silverado shares much of its underpinnings with the tahoe suv, though the pickup truck gets a unique rear suspension and a frame section that is 245 percent stiffer. Compared to the former generation silverado, the frame is 234 percent stiffer torsionally, 62 percent more resistant to bending and 136 percent stiffer laterally. All of this allows such things as reducing the gap between the truck bed and passenger compartment and between fenders and bumpers. It also enhances aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and allows suspension components to provide improved ride and handling characteristics.  the front suspension uses coil-over shock absorbers (rather than torsion bars) and the rack-and-pinion steering gear is mounted to the engine cross member frame to provide enhanced control and feedback. The silverado benefits from a rear axle design featuring shocks absorbers mounted outboard and more upright for better dynamic control than that of the previous-generation models. interiorthe silverado wt and lt come with what chevy calls the pure pickup truck interior while the ltz features a more luxurious interior.  the pure pickup interior is more driver and work oriented, includes two glove boxes in the dashboard, one of them just about the right size to hold a pair of work gloves and a few small items, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with the center section of the seat back folding down to form a wide arm rest with lots of storage capacity. This interior features large switchgear controls and interior door handles designed to be easily manipulated even while wearing bulky gloves.  the more luxury-oriented interior includes bucket seats with a permanent center console with 20 liters of storage capacity. The center stack puts ventilation and audio controls within easy site and reach of the front seat passenger. This version has a single glove box in the dash.  for 2008, all silverado models get brighter gauge needles for easier viewing in daylight, xm satellite radio with three months of complimentary service, and a power adjustable driver's seat is available for the 40/20/40 bench on regular cabs.  extended cabs feature stadium-style seating with an elevated view for those sitting in the second row. Both the extended cab and crew cab versions offer plenty of rear legroom. The rear seat bottoms can be easily be folded up to provide more room on the floor for cargo. The ltz cabin is available in three interior colors and, though it will show dirt faster, the lightest color gives the most luxurious impression.  on the other hand, the wt/lt version is more conventional truck with a more open floor area, space for junk all over, and no concerns that something might get scr. 2010 honda element review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The element is honda's crossover sport utility vehicle with a difference, designed to appeal to an active crowd. The honda element is available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations and a choice of three trim levels: the lx, the ex and the (fwd only) sc. 2006 acura tsx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The result is immediate throttle response followed by a rapid acquisition of speed. That throttle is actually a drive-by-wire accelerator. The six-speed manual gearbox is notably sweet, smooth and quick. The alternative is a five-speed automatic with sequential sport shift.  the tsx is front-wheel drive, but it's tight and fun to drive. The suspension dances to the tune of a european sports sedan. A navigation system is optional 2,000), and has been revised for 2006.  standard equipment includes perforated leather seating, moonroof, hid headlights, and a 360-watt acura premium audio system with six-disc cd changer and eight speakers. Xm satellite radio hardware is standard, but requires a subscription. Standard 17-inch nine-spoke alloy wheels come with v-rated performance tires  safety features include vehicle stability assist (vsa) with traction control and side curtain airbags.  the optional a-spec package 4,330) adds high-performance shocks and springs, lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with michelin pilot all-season performance tires, and an aero kit featuring an air dam, chin spoiler, side skirts and a choice of deck lid or wing spoiler. The kit is installed by dealerships. The suspension is available separately 800). walkaroundfor 2006, the acura tsx gets a revised grille, bumper fascia, headlights and foglights. Styling cues add to the sporty looks. The nose is clean and sharp. The headlights are narrow, horizontal slits that wrap around the fenders. It shares most of its sheet metal with the european-market honda accord (which is different from the accord sold in the u. True to its intent as a sports sedan, the tsx features shorter overhangs than the accord, featuring a relatively long wheelbase given its length. (the overhang is the part of the car that extends past the wheels.) to get a picture of the scale, the tsx is 183 inches long with a wheelbase of 105 inches; the honda accord is 187. 6 inches long but also with a wheelbase of 105 inches. The rsx coupe is 172 inches long with a wheelbase of 101 inches.  invisible to the eye are aerodynamic undertrays, strategic bellypans that help bring the coefficient of drag down to an impressive 0. 27 for the tsx. The backlight (rear window) slopes to meet a short trunk lid, which helps air separate cleanly off the back of the car at speed.  the nine-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels complement the clean lines, and the p215/50r17 tires are low-profile but not radical. Discreet business-like chrome exhaust tips are tucked under the redesigned rear fascia at each edge and give the car attitude. The seat fits great and there's good legroom. The 8000-rpm tachometer is as big as the 160-mph speedometer because the tsx is all about using the tach. The faces of the gauges have been revised faces for 2006. The bright red needles give it just the right neon touch. There's a tidy three-spoke steering wheel, wrapped skin-tight in perforated leather, just small enough. The shift knob is right, blending function and style with leather and polished aluminum, without compromising the function. A fingertip away is a 360-watt sound system with a six-cd player, with a new audio-in port for portable music players (think ipod). The tsx receives an improved system for 2006, with bigger buttons, a faster processor, more voice recognition commands and a larger points of interest database. It's easy to program, and gives clear, accurate instructions visibly and audibly. The display is big and crisp. The system uses a combination of hard buttons and context-sensitive on-screen menus. The system also takes voice commands. Larger intake valves, increased valve timing and lift, increased intake and exhaust flow and reduced pumping losses combine for a healthy horsepower increase to 205 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 164 pound-feet of torque at 4500 rpm. This is actually a larger horsepower increase than it looks like on paper, thanks to the society of automotive engineer's new horsepower rating system. And despite the smaller number it's an increase in torque as well. Third gear feels good from 3600 rpm at 40 mph all the way up to about 75 mph. It's a sweet, slick-shifting six speed that makes shifting a pleasure, not a chore. The acceleration is linear from the drop of the gas pedal, without strain or surge. But smooth power delivery comes mostly from the i-vtec engine, using honda's latest variable valve timing and lift system.  it's a wonderfully tuned engine. Never got the good cars. European drivers appreciated good handing more than we did, so they got the cars with the tightest suspensions, at the least. They got more powerful engines too, often because of lower environmental standards. But nowadays that's much less true. The tsx is a superb sports sedan. Double a-arms support the front, with a multi-link system in the rear. It's heavy for its size, but it's delicate to handle. It's sweet, but not touchy. We would have liked some aural attitude commensurate with the engine's capability and the tailpipes' promise.  the suspension says no sweat to patchy roads. It swallows the worst of it with no bouncing or tipping or jolting. It usually takes a softer suspension to deliver a comfortable ride on roads like this. The suspension's combination of firm for the curves and comfortable on the street is exceptional. It can get a little twitchy on uneven surfaces at very high speeds, though. We pushed the tsx through some curves, and it came out the other end flying its colors. Understeer is minimal. The broad range of third gear again was useful, tremendous, even. 2013 buick encore review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New crossover utility vehicle delivers luxury in a small package. introductionthe 2013 buick encore is a new entry-luxury crossover utility vehicle. At first exposure, the encore is a bit confusing. More to the point, can this small luxury vehicle achieve the established buick image, which company spokesmen describe as inviting, approachable, warm?  but climbing into the encore and pulling the door shut, instantaneously, the encore's luxury makes itself felt in its elegant design, fine instruments and high-quality switch-gear. With smoke-and-mirrors designing like that, the buick stylists have shown themselves wizards of clever packaging.  buick's marketing plan for the encore was to build a nimble, agile suv that would be easy to park, maneuver, and have an excellent turning circle (a mere 36. 7 feet). It should have available all-wheel drive, the plan said, extremely flexible stowage adaptability, carry five passengers, and provide advanced technology in combination with real luxury. The good news is, that's the vehicle we tested on the urban and rural roads of georgia.  but the good news continues: this little/big package showed very efficient over-the-road performance. Even with the heavier 3309-lb all-wheel drive model, the encore delivers an epa-estimated 23/30 mpg city/highway. The front-wheel drive encore gets 25/33 mpg city/highway mpg, the highest fuel economy of any front-wheel-drive crossover.  encore's performance equation seems to be extremely well balanced. It delivers thrift and luxury in generous degrees, available for a very attractive price. Many starter families will be enticed by this vehicle. Optional safety features include all-wheel drive 1,500); forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, and front and rear park assist (with premium package). walkaroundsetting a precedent as the first-ever small luxury crossover, the buick encore obviously has some obstacles to overcome. Smaller than the toyota matrix. It's 165 inches long, with a wheelbase of 100. 6 inches, and a track of 60. 6 inches. And because the encore is tall enough to make its occupants feel welcome, in pictures, its proportions make it look a little more like a smart car than its designers might have wished.  but in person, the encore's proportions are less startling. Its nose features the signature buick waterfall grille, and its frontal view is muscular and attractive. As a world car, it boasts an extremely clean 0. 37 coefficient of drag, which is a snooty way of saying, it is aerodynamically very clean, helping it get optimum mileage at highway speeds. Achieving full five-passenger service and getting 30 mpg or so on the highway in a vehicle that pampers its occupants every mile of the way: for many, that's worth considering. interiorclimbing into the buick encore is where the real sleight of hand begins. One of the most pleasing aspects of the interior is the classically american dashboard. Buick has no interest in reinventing the wheel, as do so many offshore luxury-car builders. But at the same time, there is nothing dull or so-what about this buick instrumentation. If there was any complaint to be made, it's that the numbers on the speedometer and tachometer were small and hard to read.  the center stack's secondary controls, too, are exemplary. The standard rearview camera (a welcome provision in this family vehicle) reads well, and the screen provides easily manipulated controls for the encore's very flexible audio system. This nav system continues to be winsomely simple to use, with excellent graphics.  but there were other lesser keynotes throughout the encore that helped enhance its luxuriousness. All the switchgear had a sturdy firmness to it that confirmed its designers had taken their mission seriously. The driver's seat's excellent lateral support had a fine snugness that we preferred over the larger, less-fitted seats in the larger buick enclave. The saddle leather was of fine quality, providing first-class seating for five adults. Elegant woodgrain elements highlighted the dash and doors, and as in the enclave, at night, the encore's ice-blue tinted interior ambient lighting made us feel like we'd arrived in a very special place indeed. Acceleration is roughly in the 9-second zero-to-60 range, adequate most of the time. Engine noise is audible, but it's civilized and not unsettling, a revelation for such an engine.  helping the engine enjoy life, the 6-speed automatic hydramatic transmission is very smooth-shifting, giving the encore's acceleration an altogether civilized, dare we say, luxurious tone. Further along the interstate, when we wanted to accelerate and floored the throttle, the hydramatic took a long time kicking-down two gears. However, when the gearshift button on the top of the shift lever was used, downshifting took place forthrightly. All doubts aside, the encore drivetrain is far better than any description of it might suggest. It's small, efficient, straightforward, and.

2006 lexus es 300 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth, quiet, easy. introductionliving with the lexus es 330 is easy. It's easy to drive smoothly, keeping passengers comfortable and making the driver look like a pro. The 3. 3-liter v6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission are refined and responsive. A supple suspension gives it a civilized ride on rough city streets, beat-up freeways and poorly maintained back roads. The brakes are easy to modulate for smooth stops in everyday driving. The es 330 is front-wheel drive and its emphasis is on convenience and comfort.  the seats are comfortable, the leather-trimmed upholstery is nice, and the rich-looking interior is accented in wood and aluminum-toned brightwork. Its controls are straightforward and easy to operate. An excellent mark levinson stereo is available as a factory option, and satellite radio can be dealer-installed. The rear seats are roomy and comfortable and feature outboard seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters. The trunk is a decent size.  true to the lexus legend, refinement, quality, fit and finish, and attention to detail are evident throughout. It can be heard in the solid sound the doors, trunk and hood make when they're closed.  lexus freshened the exterior appearance of the es 330 for the 2005 model, and upgraded some of the interior appointments. No additional changes have been made for 2006. lineupthe 2006 lexus es 330 comes as one well-equipped model 32,300).  it comes standard with many of the same luxury and convenience features found in higher-priced lexus sedans: handsome, high-quality leather upholstery with wood trim, automatic dual-zone climate control with interior air filter, power windows with auto up/down and jam protection, a power moonroof, and an am/fm/cd/cassette system with 86 watts and seven speakers.  options include a 240-watt mark levinson audio system, six-disc cd changer and xm satellite radio. Other options include vehicle stability control (vsc) with traction control and brake assist; adaptive variable suspension (avs); dvd satellite navigation; power-adjustable pedals with memory; power rear sunshade; high-intensity discharge headlamps with rain-sensing wipers; heated and ventilated front seats; wood steering wheel and shift knob; and 17-inch wheels and tires.  new for 2006 is the es 330 black diamond edition, a package 600) that features exclusive black diamond paint, black birdseye maple wood trim, and other distinctive touches and includes an exclusive tumi luggage set.  safety was a top priority when designing the es 330. Standard passive safety equipment includes dual front airbags (mandated), seat-mounted side-impact airbags (for torso protection), and front and rear side-curtain airbags (for head protection). The front seats are designed to help reduce whiplash. The outboard rear seatbelts are fitted with force limiters and pre-tensioners. To help the driver avoid accidents in the first place, the es 330 comes standard with such active safety features as anti-lock disc brakes (abs) and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd). Optional vehicle stability control is designed to improve driver control by reducing skidding in turns. walkaroundthe lexus es 330 makes a striking styling statement with its dramatic front rake and headlamps that look like silvery cat's eyes. The front end seems to slope down in one continuous curve, from the top of the windshield, over the sculpted hood and tidy dark grille, down to the smooth air dam under the almost seamless front bumper.  tail lamps trimmed in silver echo the design, stretching around the corners, as if reaching to meet the headlamps. Nine-spoke alloy wheels complement the sheet metal. The optional 17-inch alloy wheels use a six-spoke design. The passenger compartment is reinforced in critical areas, and front and rear crush zones are designed to crumple and to help absorb the impact of a crash. interiorthe cabin of the lexus es 330 is warm and inviting. Rich wood trim, available in golden bird's-eye maple or red walnut, goes well with aluminum-like accents. All of the trim materials exude a high-quality look and feel. The standard steering wheel and shift lever are covered with stitched leather trim and look very nice. An all wood-trimmed handle for the shift lever and a wood-trimmed steering wheel are available for an even more prestigious appearance. Regardless, the steering column is manually adjustable for tilt. Steering-wheel-mounted controls for the audio system and other functions are optionally available.  the standard leather-trimmed upholstery is quite nice, and the seats are very comfortable. The seating position is excellent, with lots of front-seat legroom. Optional power-adjustable pedals are especially useful for shorter drivers, helping them find a comfortable driving position without sitting too close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel; we recommend them for families with short drivers. The seats are relatively flat, without large bolsters, making getting in and out easier. The driver's seat comes standard with 10-way power adjustments, and both front seats have a memory function. The shape and construction of the front seats is borrowed from the flagship ls 430 and they can be ordered with integrated heat and ventilation.  the es 330 is about 10 percent larger inside than a mercedes-benz c-class, with significantly more front hip room. Five is a crowd, but it'll work for short distances. Overall, it's roomier and more comfortable (with more hip room and leg room) in the back of the es 330 than in the back of a mercedes c320 sedan. The self-dimming outside mirrors offer a good view rearward and seem larger than those on german cars; we prefer the lexus mirrors. The inside rearview mirror is self-dimming (electrochromic) and features a digital compass. The slope of the rear window doesn't allow a panoramic view, though it fills the rearview mirror. The rearview mirror is mounted so close to the headliner that adjusting it requires an awkward grab at its bottom edge. An optional power rear shade filters out the blazing sun, whether driving or parked.  the clean-looking instrument panel features three round, deeply recessed pods with highly legible optitron gauges. A digital trip computer at the bottom of the speedometer displays range, average fuel consumption and other functions, controlled by a pair of buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Similarly, a digital odometer with two trip odometers is displayed in the right pod with big fuel and temperature gauges. On the left is a big tachometer.  the optional navigation system is powerful, with excellent graphics, a huge database (5 million points of interest), and voice activation. It's a good system, but requires some experience and study to master. To reduce the chance of driver distraction, the navi cannot be programmed when the car is moving.  audio functions are integrated into the navigation system, which we found a mixed blessing. To change preset radio stations, for example,. driving impressionthe lexus es 330 delivers a smooth, refined driving experience with a smooth engine and transmission, a smooth-riding suspension, smooth brakes, and extensive measures designed to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. And did we mention this car is smooth?  the 3. 3-liter v6 engine gives the es 330 responsive performance in everyday driving situations. Lexus says the es 330 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 2 seconds. It's rated 21/29 mpg city/highway by the epa and is certified by the government as a ulev ii ultra-low emissions vehicle. Power ratings are down slightly for 2006, to 218 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, but that's only because the society of automotive engineers (sae) has instituted new test procedures that tend to deliver more conservative numbers. The engine itself, and its performance, have not changed. This year's es is just as powerful as last year's model.  the transmission shifts very smoothly. Upshifts in normal, everyday driving are almost invisible. Yet the gearbox delivers responsive shifts when driving aggressively. The gated shifter allows manual gear selection, but we found this to be a clunky proposition and preferred to just leave it in. 2014 nissan versa review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new hatch has hard-to-beat space at a compelling price. introductionthe 2014 nissan versa note is an all-new model that replaces the outgoing versa hatchback. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Its styling doesn't scream for attention, yet it's not boring, either. It does just what it's supposed to do: carry lots of stuff at a reasonable price while achieving good gas mileage.  when measured against the outgoing versa hatchback, the versa note is about six inches shorter, although the length of the wheelbase stays the same. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the base model, while an all-new continuously variable transmission (cvt) comes on higher trim levels. Significantly, this revised cvt uses a secondary set of gears on the low end to help reduce the sluggish, rubber-band feel from which most cvts suffer. As a result, the versa note has adequate oomph at lower speeds, and most people won't even notice they're not driving a regular automatic transmission.  fuel economy is another major selling point for for the nissan versa note, and is improved by 17 percent over the outgoing hatch thanks in part to a weight reduction of nearly 300 pounds, plus added technology such as dual fuel injection. Additional aerodynamic enhancements also help to make the versa note more slippery. The result is an impressive epa-estimated 31/40 mpg city/highway with the cvt. The base manual doesn't fare as well, earning 27/36 mpg city/highway.  rear cargo space is an impressive 21. 4 cubic feet, the most of any small hatch currently on the market. Rear seats fold down 60/40, and an optional folding cargo floor on upper trim levels adjusts to create a completely flat load surface.  although its low starting price will attract many to the nissan note, there are also plenty of new features and options for anyone looking to soup up their hatch. Fully loaded, the 2014 versa note surpasses the $19k mark including destination for the top-of-the-line model with navigation and a 360-degree parking monitor (the latter of which is a first in a nissan vehicle). But nissan expects their $16,000 sv model to be the most popular choice, equipped with the cvt and a few tech features like bluetooth. For the truly budget-conscious, it's important to note that maximum fuel economy comes only with the cvt, which starts at $1,200 more than the base price.  entry-level hatchbacks such as the chevrolet sonic, ford fiesta, honda fit, hyundai accent, kia rio and toyota yaris compete with the 2014 nissan versa note. A convenience package 540) adds a folding rear seat armrest with cup holders, an adjustable cargo floor, rear parking monitor, usb audio port, satellite radio capability and a 4. 3-inch audio display screen.  versa note sl 17,690) adds everything on the convenience package plus pushbutton start, heated front seats, variable intermittent windshield wipers, front fog lights, a tire-filling alert feature, engine immobilizer and 16-inch alloy wheels. A tech package 800) adds navigation with the nissanconnect interface, a 360-degree parking monitor and heated side-view mirrors.  safety features on all 2014 nissan versa note models include front airbags, front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags, antilock brakes (abs), traction control, stability control, electronic brake force distribution (ebd) and brake assist. walkaroundthe nissan versa note isn't a bad looking hatch. It's less wedgy than some, but isn't boxy, either. Designers say its shape is based on a squash line, referring to the path a squash ball takes when a player hits it against the wall and it ricochets back. Overhangs have been reduced by six inches compared to the outgoing hatch to give the note a tauter look, which also helps with improve handling.  like any car designed to maximize fuel economy, aerodynamics play a key role in the versa note's styling. The front end is still pointed, but with softer curves rather than sharp angles. A steeply raked windshield rises up to a tall roof that arcs slightly. A v-shaped groove on the roof helps to channel air more efficiently over the top of the car. Tail lights have small vents on the corners to also help channel air.  from the side, the versa note has deep, arcing character lines that add personality and further help with aero. Large headlamps and tail lamps wrap around to the quarter panels. The rear keeps a bit of its boxy shape from before, but corners are softer and more rounded. The rear window opening is relatively small and sits high up, which is presumably safer in a rear-end collision, but affects rearward visibility.  on every model except the base, the versa note uses an active grille shutter, which automatically closes at highway speeds to channel air around the car, or can open to more effectively cool the engine. interiorit's all about convenience with the 2014 nissan versa note. The interior design is simple, perfunctory and well laid-out. The cabin is filled with lots of hard plastic, but designers did a decent job with different finishes and textures to give variety without looking cheap.  controls are easy to use and well placed. On the center stack, three large, conventional knobs operate the climate control system. Above, base s models have a basic digital display for radio stations. Sv models with the convenience package and sl trims get a larger, 4. 3-inch display that shows artist and song titles as well as station information. Top-of-the-line sl models with the tech package get a touch screen with navigation. While nothing is fancy, everything is readily visible and within easy reach.  front seats have a very upright seating position, and are comfortable enough for short and medium-length trips. But we're not sure they'd offer enough support for very long hauls. Fabric upholstery is basic and attractive, and side arm rests are easily within reach. Headroom is more than ample up front, and at 40. 8 inches, bests other hatches of its size. Front legroom is plentiful too, although it comes up slightly short against most competitors. This is, presumably, because nissan designers placed the front seat track farther forward to make more room in the rear.  storage space up front is minimal; the center console has a tiny pocket next to the emergency brake level that's only large enough for a mobile phone. The rear of the center console has an area with two cupholders on base models and a large deep pocket on upper trims, but it's hard to reach from the front seats, making it better suited for back seat passengers. Rear legroom in the versa note can't be beat, however, measuring an impressive 38. 3 inches, substantially more than the ford fiesta's 31. 2 inches and the honda fit's 34. 5 inches. There's also plenty of tow room under the front seats, so even a six-foot-tall passenger shouldn't feel cramped.  unlike some cars that have a raised area in the middle of the backseat, the middle seat in the versa note is relatively flush, but the center console inhibits legroom and the seat width is relatively narrow. For this reason, we'd save the middle seat for children or smaller adults. On sv models with the convenience package and ls trims, a folding center armrest with cupholders comes standard. One small omission we noticed was that the rear handles in the back seat do not have hanger hooks.  the versa note boasts an enormous trunk, with 21. 4 cubic feet of space with th.
